This recipe comes from Great Grandma Smith. Every time the grandkids would come to visit she'd make this for breakfast.
Preheat the oven to 400°. Add 1 egg and 1/2 cup of milk into a small bowl and stir until fully mixed.
Add this to a larger bowl that has 2 cups of flour, 3 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1tsp of cinnamon.
Add the shortening and stir together until it's just mixed.
Grease an 8x8 square pan.
Spread the mixture evenly and brush with melted butter.
Now it's time to make the crumble topping. In a small bowl mix 2 tbsp flour, 2tbsp butter, 5tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Mix until its clumpy and then crumble it over the cake.
Bake for 25 mins. Serve warm. If you want to eat it for leftovers, cover it in foil or it will dry out quickly. Then when ready to eat a serving, heat a square with some butter in the microwave.
